Last weekend I went to the Pasadena Flea Market with my dear friend Laura. I wish I had pictures of the solid wood children’s chairs she found, but I don’t. Here are my finds.

Okay, so I’m not staying at a Bed and Breakfast this week, but I am staying at a friend’s home at Mount Hermon. They are gone, but I am here. The hikes, the sleep, the quiet, the reading, the pinning, the video-watching, the outdoors, the indoors, and opportunities to hear myself think have been lovely. I haven’t slept as well since I don’t know when but definitely not since moving into the dorm. On campus there is continual life and noise. Even with the students gone there are fire alarms, car alarms, tennis players, knocks on the door, grounds crew people outside making noise, a crow flying into my window over and over in the morning to wake me up… I’m so thankful for the couple who see what God has given them as an opportunity to serve others and minister through hospitality. It makes me dream of someday being able to do the same. A retreat house up here would be nice because it’s only an hour away from the fam and because I am more of a mountain girl than a beach girl, but here they have the best of both worlds since the beach is only 30 minutes away :).
- Love, love, love.
- Wherever I live, I’d love to have a guest tree house like this :).
Maybe it is the crisp fall air, the changing of the leaves, a branch found on the walk way or the weekend that is coming, but my creative juices are flowing.
- A New Centerpiece
- A Cigar Table Turned End Table Found at Goodwill
- The Handle of a Starbucks Bag Turned Gift Tag
Maybe I will get some inspiration in the food department as I head out to dinner with good friends at Cleo’s, one of my favorite restaurants in Hollywood :). Have a great weekend!

My Spanish may be lame, but my Pinterest boards are not. If you haven’t heard of or tried Pinterest you will love it. I joined months ago, but haven’t used it until this week. (I wonder why? I must have been busy or something :) ). I am in love… with Pinterest that is. It is like following blogs but it is so fast because it is all pictures and you can save everything you like to your boards and skip over anything you don’t like. I have a board for food, one for photos I like, one for event planning, one I call crafty… etc. So many good ideas all in quick images. Try it today. You know you want to :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need to buy a new camera, but here’s a little update on my home from my phone :).

I love normal birthdays spent in fun ways with people you love. This birthday I wish I could have had a few more people I love around me, but I always wish that. That’s the tension you feel when you keep loving more people and they live so many different places.
- The day started with carpooling down to services at Grace Community Church with my friends Kellie and Rae with a pit-stop at Starbucks on the way.
- We met other friends at church and added a few more we bumped into there and walked to the car on a side street where they gave me my awesome birthday gift (a toaster) and sang to me in the middle of the street. We then had hugs down the line. I’m sure we were a spectacle :)
- Next we headed down to Portos a delicious cuban bakery where we met two of my former roommies . We took our food to go to the Americana and had a picnic on the lawn. It was lovely!
- Danae and Adrienne met us there. Adrienne treated me to an iced americano and when we got back there was a candle in my chocolate croissant and they sang to me again.
- We walked around. Looked in the shops. Enjoyed the sunshine and the air conditioning and ran into more friends while out and about.
- Kellie dropped me off at Jer’s. We chillaxed a while at his place before we went up to Santa Clarita.
- Jer treated to Starbucks on the way up. Lots of caffeine. Tis the season :)
- Jer being the good brother he is helped me hang some stuff at my apartment.
- Speaking of hanging stuff, there was a sign hanging on my door that my former roommies made for me and flowers with a note from a friend too. Fun surprises to come home to!
- Jer worked for hours while I made dinner.
- I had been dreaming of making these items from what was in my fridge. Jer is always a willing guinea-pig.
- appetizer: stuffed mini-bell peppers – stuffed with a little herbed goat cheese, kalamata olives, and salami – and roasted to perfection. Slightly sweet, very salty, and oh so savory.
- salad: hearts of romaine with red onions, macadamia nuts, and a sprinkle of feta with bacon-wrapped, home-grown, roasted plums and balsamic dressing. If I do this again I will try adding a little brown sugar to the roasted plums :).
- main dish: grown up, baked mac and cheese – variety of cheeses, bacon, and ham
- dessert: vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries
- Lastly, I had many friendly facebook messages to respond to that evening. I was especially thankful to hear from my former students. That meant so much to me. I love them and can’t believe half of them will be seniors.
I didn’t take many pictures. I mostly have pictures of food. How sad! But it was a lovely day!

I need to remember to take more pictures. I’m documenting less, when I need to be documenting more :). Hope to post about my birthday soon.

I failed. Bloggers are supposed to take before and after pictures and pictures of the progress. My move took all my energy and I didn’t even think of taking before, during, and after pictures. I’m still in progress, but I’m also away from home and even if I could get pictures at this point, they would be of little interest. Some people have asked for pictures or descriptions, so here are the two pics I have from the bedroom.
The cabinet was the big before and after piece. It still needs a little love and attention, but it went from being a two-colored wood piece from the 1970s to a modern, solid wood and craftsmanship awesome piece. I love how it turned out. I needed a color that would match with yellow and green as well as blue and brown since my room will vary between the two. I came up with grey. I looked at oops paint at the hardward stores for a couple weeks, when I spotted this. The paint guy at the store I got it from blabbered on and on about how oops paint is ruined paint. “I ruin it,” he said. “I pour red, blue, and yellow in it to ruin it. People order it and then say they don’t want it so they can get it for cheap. It’s ruined paint.” I said, “I like it. Can I get it?” I think oops paint has character and it’s cheap. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I love it. I spray painted the original hardware. It used to be bronze. The picture really doesn’t do it justice.
Hopefully there will be more pictures to come as I settle in.
